A detail-oriented U.S. Marine Corps veteran, James finds integrity to be of the utmost importance when running his planning-based practice that’s focused on retirement income, estate, charitable, tax, education, asset preservation and liability planning.
As a Certified Financial Planner™ professional, James has attained the prestigious CFP® certification, one of the most respected financial planning credentials among consumers and the recognized standard of excellence in personal financial planning.
He is also a Certified Private Wealth Advisor® practitioner. This is an advanced credential created specifically for wealth managers who work with high-net-worth clients and understand how to develop specific strategies to mitigate taxes, monetize and preserve assets, maximize opportunities, and transfer wealth.
James has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Alex. Brown in 2017, James served as a director with UBS Financial Services following roles as a financial advisor, branch manager, divisional training officer and sales manager.
“I enjoy helping people,” James said. “That is a big reason why I joined the United States Marine Corps and why I value this industry.”
Having earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Fordham University, James often works with corporate executives in the oil and gas industry, and his top focus is helping clients find comfort and happiness while reaching for their financial goals.
He brings to the firm his four rules for investing: First, have a plan. Second, don’t get emotional. Third, understand taxes. And fourth, it’s not how much you make; it’s how much you keep. It’s important to understand all the fees you pay.
Originally from the Bronx, New York, James spent his summers on a dairy farm in Millstreet, Ireland, where he gained an understanding of the value of hard work and “earning a buck.”
He resides in Wyckoff, New Jersey, where he serves as chairman of the Wyckoff Memorial Day Parade and volunteer coach for St. Elizabeth’s School basketball and the Wyckoff Torpedoes Soccer Club. James also volunteers for Meals on Wheels and is a father of three – Abigail, Maura and Jack.
