Bill Stewart
William G. Stewart III Director Client Advisor

Prior to joining Alex Brown in 2022, Bill was an executive vice president with Janney Montgomery Scott, LLC. He has more than 35 years of experience in the financial industry.

Bill began his career in New York City with Kidder Peabody & Company as a vice president and one of 20 institutional portfolio management consultants with Kidder Peabody’s consulting group. When the firm was sold in 1994, he joined Smith Barney as one of only 50 consulting group directors.

In 1997, Donadson, Lufkin & Jenrette recruited him to join the firm as the national manager of DLJ Consulting, which became CSFB Consulting when Credit Suisse First Boston acquired DLJ in 2000. Bill joined Legg Mason Wood Walker, Inc. in 2003 as a senior vice president and senior portfolio consultant. Legg Mason’s Private Client Group was exchanged for Citigroup’s asset management operation in late 2005 and became part of Smith Barney.

Bill has decades of institutional quality investment portfolio management experience, which has given him a substantial level of long-term financial comfort amid life’s everlasting, volatile investment environments. Bill specializes in working with the owners of privately held middle market and lower middle market businesses to help them develop strong, customizable business succession strategies and liquidity solutions.

Every privately held business has hurdles that demand careful and thoughtful handling to ensure successful transitions for all stakeholders. Bill recognizes the qualitative stakes for both families and their businesses are as important as the quantitative stakes.
