John “Jack” Joyce A Tribute

Jack retired as our managing director in 2020 after a long and distinguished career.

His goal had always been to provide his clients with top-notch planning and investment advice designed to help them enjoy their personal and business lives. While striving to generate strong investment returns over a market cycle, he placed a strong emphasis on sound judgement and risk management.

He served as a client advisor at Alex. Brown beginning in 2001, first when it was part of Deutsche Bank Securities, and then when the firm was acquired by Raymond James in 2016. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who attended Boston College on the GI Bill.

Over 50 years, he fulfilled his promise to give back to his community and to the university that gave him an education. He founded the 2,000-member Boston College Club, which has awarded over 100 scholarships for inner-city students to attend Boston College and has a foundation of more than $8 million. He also established the Frank Brennan Foundation, a leadership and ethics program for freshmen at Carroll School of Management, helping to raise more than $500,000.

He and his wife, Nancy, were co-patrons who have supported the arts at Boston College, especially through their work and activities with the McMullen Museum of Art and the Boston College Friends of Art.

Jack earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, an MBA and an honorary doctorate in business from Boston College, where he served as president of the class of 1961, chairman of the student senate, and president of Alpha Kappa Psi. Later in his life, he provided leadership to the Boston College Alumni Association as president.

Jack served as chairman of Catholic Charities, and as a chairman and trustee of Newton Country Day School. He was a member of the Wellesley Country Club and a life member of the Ballybunion Golf Club in Ireland.

Sadly, Mr. Joyce passed away in March 2022.
